The Opening Drive 1/27: Update on Where the OSU Class of '27 Currently Stands
A brief introduction to those players committed to Ohio State in next year's class.
What Will The 2027 Class Look Like?
We have discussed multiple times that it seems the recruiting strategy is changing for the Buckeyes. Will the class of 2027 reflect a new emphasis on the transfer portal? It’s going to be really hard to say, as the class of 27 is loaded with studs. There are multiple guys in this class that fit the narrative of being a guy that you absolutely want in your class no matter what.
For the purpose of this introduction, I will be introducing the players currently committed. The class currently has 9 verbal commitments, and ranks 3rd in the 247 Composite Rankings.

THE OFFENSIVE COMMITS
#1 WR, #1 Player in Ohio, #6 Overall Jamier Brown.
The recent transfer to Big Walnut via Huber Hts. Wayne might be the fastest player in the class of 2027. Brown has stated that he will be taking visits to other schools, in part due to the departure of Brian Hartline. The move to Big Walnut should be a positive for the Buckeyes, as it will bring him closer to campus.
#11 QB, # 11 Player in California, #141 Overall Brady Edmunds
Edmunds has been committed to OSU since December of 2024 and is working to be a class leader. He has a live arm, and is sneaky athletic.
#34 IOL, #20 Player in Ohio, #536 Overall Mason Wilt
The St. Clairesville, Ohio product may not be a huge name nationally but is a guy that coach Tyler Bowen wanted in this class. Wilt plays tackle for his high school team, but projects to be a guard at the college level. He is very physical in his run blocking, and is a solid pass blocker.
#23 OT, #3 Player in Virginia, #235 Overall Brody McNeal
McNeal is projected to play tackle, as he seems a bit longer than Wilt. If I could use only one word to describe McNeal it would be relentless. He finishes blocks, and finishes them with aggression.
#10 IOL, #4 Player in Ohio, #210 Overall Kellen Wymer
Offer-wise Wymer has the most impressive list of the three committed linemen. Notre Dame, Indiana, and Michigan all extended offers to the Liberty Center product. Wymer plays tackle right now, but projects to play guard. Wymer is, in my opinion, the most athletic of the three committed linemen.
THE DEFENSIVE COMMITS
#1 Edge, #1 Player in Georgia, #8 Overall DJ Jacobs
Jacobs committing to the Buckeyes came as a shock, to pretty much everyone. Jacobs was thought to be a pretty heavy Miami lean, before making his shocking commitment. At 6ft5 and 225 pounds, Jacobs brings a frame that will continue to grow. His father David played at Georgia. Jacobs recently showed he can compete against the best of the best at the Under Armour Next game.
#11 LB, #9 Player in North Carolina, #192 Overall Quinton Cypher
If there were an award for best hair in the class, it might go to Cypher. Make no mistake about it though, this guy is legit. Athletic, instinctive, and physical, what more could you ask for from a linebacker? Most believe he was the #1 linebacker target for the Buckeyes, and after watching his film I can see why.
#10 S, #15 Player in Texas, #115 Overall Eli Johnson
The Buckeyes go to the state of Texas and strike gold once again with Eli Johnson. Lengthy, instinctive, and not afraid to drop into the box against the run. Johnson might not be afraid to hit, but needs to work on wrapping up.
#56 S, #61 Player in Florida, #588 Overall Angelo Smith
Yes, he’s Jeremiah’s brother. No, that’s not why he got an OSU offer. He’s currently listed at 5ft10, so that is partially to blame for him not being highly recruited. However, he plays bigger than that, and may end up being a late bloomer as he is young for his class. He’s very rangy, and as with Johnson not afraid to hit.
It’s hard to say if all nine of these guys will end up with the Buckeyes come December, but if they do the foundation of the class is very strong.
