The Opening Drive 1/20: The Portal Closes and a Natty Recap
The whirlwind that is portal season seems to be slowing down, and a quick recap of the National Championship last night.
The deadline to enter the transfer portal closed on Friday for college football players, except those from Indiana and Miami. Players from those two schools will have until January 24th to enter the portal. I would not be surprised if we see minimal movement from those two squads. If I had to guess, there will be more notable names from Miami enter than IU. But, I honestly don’t expect any notable names to enter from either squad.
The Buckeyes Continue Their Shopping Spree
We had wondered if the Buckeyes were done adding pieces to the wide receiver room with the addition of Devin McCuin, and the answer is no. The Buckeyes added former LSU receiver Kyle Parker. Parker comes to the Buckeyes with two years of eligibility remaining. He had 31 receptions for 330 yards and 4 touchdowns this season for the Tigers. Coming to the Buckeyes reunites him with Coach Hankerton, who was his position coach in Baton Rouge. Parker went to the same high school as Buckeye LineBacker Payton Pierce, Lovejoy High School. Parker is a top 350 transfer portal recruit, and was also in the top 350 coming out of high school.
A Late Visitor?
According to reports that came out on Monday, the Buckeyes will be hosting a potential offensive line target on Friday. Dartmouth offensive lineman Vasean Washington will be on campus for a visit. The 6ft5 285 pound Springfield, Ohio native would have one year of eligibility left. He is a swing player, having played tackle and guard. Dartmouth is a run-heavy scheme team, but Washington has only given up one sack in over 700 snaps there.

College Football Runs Through The Big Ten
For the third consecutive season, the Big Ten reigns supreme as the Indiana Hoosiers are the college football national champions. The Hoosiers beat the Miami Hurricanes 27-21 on Monday night to win the college football playoff. In a game that saw the two teams that beat OSU this season, it lived up to the hype. It’s rare that these games showcase what both teams do well, but this one did.
The Miami front-four showed their talent, Charlie Becker made plays on back shoulder fades, Fernando Mendoza showed his grit and tenacity, and Carson Beck sealed his teams fate with a terrible interception. It’s insane to think that the Indiana Hoosiers are the national champions, but they are and they deserved it. In case you didn’t know, all their coach does is win and you can google him!
Buckeye Film Breakdown will return soon with some fresh content.
