The Opening Drive 2/16: The 2027 Recruiting Class Is Starting To Clear Up
Key Prospects Are Starting to Emerge as lists get trimmed, and visits get scheduled.
2027 Recruits Are Starting to Make Their Plans Known
December may be a mere two-hundred and eighty-nine days away, and with it comes the early signing period for the class of 2027 recruiting class. The Buckeyes class currently sits third in the 247Sports Composite class rankings, with nine commitments. The Buckeyes will be involved in many high profile recruitments between now and December. However, the waters are getting a little clearer as prospects are starting to schedule visits and trim their lists.
Here are updates on some of the key prospects that have made announcements that involve Ohio State.
-#6 DT John Archer will be visiting this spring. While no date has been announced the 6ft4, 315 pound North Carolina native will be key prospect on the interior defensive line.
-#20 TE Sean Currie who is currently committed to Virginia, for both football and lacrosse, is set to visit on March 10th. The 6ft7 ( yes kids, 6’7) monster TE was the first prospect contacted by new OC Arthur Smith.
-#13 OT Cameron Wagner is slated to visit in March, according to Mick Walker of Letterman Row. This could very well shape up to be an Ohio State versus Notre Dame battle for the Illinois prospect.
-#14 Edge Rashad Streets has trimmed his list to 6. Granted, these lists are always fluid. Streets continues the trend of tall, slender edge rushers as he is listed at 230 pounds. The Buckeyes join Oregon, NC State, Florida State, Alabama, and South Carolina.
-#1 WR Monshun Sales is down to his final 4. The Indianapolis, Indiana product has a final 4 of Ohio State, Miami, Indiana, and Alabama, according to Hayes Fawcett.
-#14 CB Taelyn Mayo has trimmed his list to 5. OSU, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M comprise the top 5 for the Texas prospect. Will OG Walt be able to woo him away from the SEC?
-#21 OT Jimmy Kalis, whose brother Kyle is still looking for blood, has not only trimmed his list but is also working on finalizing his official visits list. The final 6 list is comprised of the Buckeyes, Texas, Georgia, Clemson, LSU, and Miami. All signs point to this being an Ohio State and Texas battle.
-#36 QB Champ Monds has locked in a spring visit to Columbus on April 4th. This is obviously an interesting development, since QB Brady Edmunds is already committed to Ohio State. Florida, Florida State, Miami, and Notre Dame are also getting spring visits.
-#5 DT Marcus Fakatou included OSU in his top 10. Fakatou is currently projected to go to Notre Dame.
-#13 OT Qua Ford will be taking his official visit on June 5th. The Buckeyes and SMU currently lead, and are the only two OV’s currently scheduled.
