The Opening Drive 5/8: A Class of 2027 Recruiting Update
The coaching staff hits the trail, and the entire offensive staff converges upon a key target.
The 2027 Class As It Stands
It’s been a minute since we’ve talked recruiting, and that changes right now! Before we talk about potential commitments, let’s take a look at how the class is currently shaping up headed into the crucial summer. OSU currently has 11 verbal commitments in the 2027 recruiting class, and sits ninth in the 247 Sports Composite Rankings.
The class currently has:
2 composite 5 stars
7 composite 4 stars
2 composite 3 stars
The Offensive Commits:
OH 5* WR Jamier Brown
OH 4* OT Kellen Wymer
CA 4* QB Brady Edmunds
VA 4* OL Brody McNeel
PA 4* OT Jimmy Kalis
OH 4* OT Davis Seamen
OH 3* OL Mason Wilt
The Defensive Commits:
GA 5* DE David “ DJ” Jacobs
TX 4* S Eli Johnson
NC 4* LB Quinton Cypher
FL 3* DB Angelo Smith
An Ohio vibe to the offensive side of the ball, especially in the trenches. Brown and Jacobs headline the class at this point, as both are in the top 21 national recruits.
The Big Fish
Earlier this week, the ENTIRE offensive staff met up while on the trail. The reason for the meetup was Chattanooga, Tennessee all world 5* running back David Gabriel Georges. (The S is silent.) Georges is the number 1 ranked player in Tennessee, and the number 2 ranked running back in the country. The Buckeyes will be in a heated recruiting battle until signing day with the home state Vols. The recruiting intel says that the Buckeyes will not be outbid for the services of DGG.

The QB Situation
Brady Edmunds has been all Buckeye since committing on December 2, 2024. However, it seems the QB situation in this class might be worth monitoring. It originally seemed that OSU was looking taking 2 quarterbacks, as the flirted with Champ Monds who ended up committing to Notre Dame. However, it seems there might be more to it. UCLA seems to be pushing Edmunds pretty hard for a flip. Edmunds who is normally all Ohio State on his social media posted a photo with a UCLA coach on Thursday. In the wild world of recruiting I think the staff has a sixth sense for this type of situation, and this one seems no different as Coach Fessler has been a very busy man. In the last week alone, he has visited 4 quarterbacks.
Those 4 are:
Nebraska Commit 4* Trae Taylor
Oklahoma Commit 4* Jameson Roberts
Ole Miss Commit 4* Keagan Croucher
Alabama 4* Commit Trent Seaborn
It will be interesting to see how things go with this situation. I do think if there’s a break up between OSU and Edmunds that it will be a mutual decision.
