The Opening Drive 2/6: Catching Up on the Latest Buckeye News
Underdog Lines, Spring Ball Dates, and NFL Validation

Davison Igbinosun Holds His Ground in Mobile
Former Buckeye Davison Igbinosun put together a solid, workmanlike week at the Senior Bowl — exactly what evaluators want to see. He didn’t try to reinvent himself. He played to his strengths.
Igbinosun showed consistent physicality in one-on-one settings, competed at the catch point, and looked comfortable playing press and off-man techniques against NFL-caliber receivers. The week wasn’t about flash — it was about confirmation. He held his own, stayed competitive, and reinforced the traits that made him productive at Ohio State.
That approach resonated. Igbinosun showed up in multiple team publications as a potential draft option, including mentions by the Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Green Bay Packers. That kind of league-wide interest reflects how his game translates — tough, competitive, and reliable.
That’s how you help yourself in an all-star setting. No drop-off. No surprises. Just steady reps against top-end competition.

Spring Ball Calendar Is Out
During the Coach Day radio show on Friday, Ryan Day released Ohio State’s spring football calendar. Spring practice will begin on March 10, with sessions running through the Spring Game on Saturday, April 18.
Tickets for the Spring Game will go on sale February 20 via the Ohio State Athletics website.
This marks the transition point. Roster building takes a back seat. Evaluation, competition, and role definition take over. Spring ball is where depth charts start to separate and assumptions get challenged.
OSU Opens as an Underdog
For the first time since The Game in 2023, Ohio State opens as an underdog. The opening line for the Buckeyes’ Week 2 road trip to Texas Longhorns has Texas favored by 2.5 points.
The takeaway is simple. Vegas sees these two teams as essentially even. Home-field advantage is typically worth about three points, and this line reflects that reality. Strip the location out of it, and you’re looking at a neutral-field evaluation. No narrative. No motivation needed. Just two teams expected to win with execution.
Buckeye Film Breakdown will return soon with some fresh content.
