The Opening Drive 6/12: Your Friday Recruiting Update
Was it all for not??
What a difference a week can make. Just as you think momentum is headed in the right direction, things change. Welcome to college football recruiting in 2026.
Where Do Things Stand With DGG?
I feel like I bring David Gabriel Georges up every week, and probably will do so until his announcement date. The all world running back visited the “home” state Volunteers of Tennessee last weekend. There is a ton of smoke coming out that visit, and if all things are as presented the news isn’t good for the home team. It is being said that the UT NIL number won’t be beat. The rumored number is 6 million dollars over the duration of the deal. We’ve been told by the OSU beat that OSU won’t be outbid in this recruitment, but time is definitely going to tell. Chad Simmons went on the record on 6/8 and stated that if signing day were today, he would pick UT. Steve Wiltfong has said multiple times he’s close to changing his crystal ball. However, at the time of this writing NEITHER have moved their predictions. We will never know if the NIL numbers are accurate, but this one can be looked at in 2 different lights. Do you pay an unproven running back 2 million a year? That’s hard to justify. Do you believe that DGG is a Jeremiah Smith level recruit? If so, you pony up and pay the money. Until we see him against college level competition you can’t say it for certain, but I’d think DGG would be the best back on the roster next year.
3 More Targets Come Off the Board
As if the smoke surrounding the Gabriel Georges visit, 3 more targets came off the board this week. RB Jayden Miles committed to Florida State, DB Bryce Woods committed to Virginia Tech, and late Thursday DL Kasi Currie joined the Texas Longhorns. It seems the Buckeyes are going to reassess their board after the summer visits, camps, and first part of the 2026 season.

The Weekend Visitors
At the time of this writing, there are 4 visitors scheduled to be on campus this weekend. I’m definitely not considering any of these guys on commitment watch. I honestly don’t know that any of the 4 will end up in the class, but can see 2 of the 4 in the class. The visitors are:
#8 overall , Indiana WR Monshun Sales
#72 overall, Mississippi OT Caden Moss
#102 overall, Ohio CB Monsanna Torbert
#284 overall, Ohio DB Deontay Malone
Sales and Moss are the big fish this weekend for sure. I think Sales ends up at either Alabama or Indiana. Moss currently has 100% of his crystal ball predictions for the home state Ole Miss Rebs. The 2 Ohio kids are where things get interesting. OSU would absolutely take a commitment from Torbert, but the former IU Hoosier verbal is still entertaining the Hoosiers, along with Louisville and Maryland.
A Golden Weekend for Jamier Brown
A bit of positive news, as last weekend at Jesse Owens Stadium it was the Jamier Brown show. Brown would bring home 3 state championships:
10.42 in the 100
20.91 in the 200 (OHSAA D2 RECORD)
41.53 in the 4x100 as the anchor (D2 STATE MEET RECORD)
Buckeye Film Breakdown will return soon with some fresh content.
